Hugo de Groot in Den Haag voert langs de belangrijkste plekken in de internationale juridische hoofdstad van de wereld: waar hij woonde, werkte én gevangen zat. Hoe kon de belangrijkste pleitbezorger van het Nederlandse koloniale rijk uitgroeien tot grondlegger van het moderne internationale recht? Om dit uit te leggen eindigt de wandeling voor het Vredespaleis.
Hugo de Groot (Grotius), the Netherlands’ most renowned seventeenth-century scholar, is best known to the public for his dramatic escape from Loevestein Castle in a book chest. Grotius in The Hague guides you past the key locations in the world’s international legal capital: the places where he lived, worked and was imprisoned. How did the foremost advocate of the Dutch colonial empire become the founding father of modern international law? To answer this question, the walk concludes in front of the Peace Palace.
