Psychology of Teaching and Learning Music

• Introduces students to the key theoretical principles from teaching and learning research, and how these concepts and can be applied in the music classroom, including areas such as: music and the brain, diversity; social justice; culturally responsive teaching; and learning communities as an instructional model
• Serves undergrad and grad students in a Psychology of Music course, but focuses more on teaching and learning and specific to music education as this also serves students in a Psychology of Teaching and Learning Music course
• Includes assessment and evaluation, and a discussion of approaching the teacher’s own reflective practice as a music teacher
• A balance of theoretical/methodological and empirical content, as well as pragmatic examples in the music classroom, helps students understand how to connect theory with practice in music teaching.
